KSI v/s Logan Paul

On 25th August, Youtube vloggers, KSI and Logan Paul took their online beef to the next level when they faced each other in a boxing ring. KSI who boasts of almost 19.4 million subscribers, took on Logan Paul who has 18.2 million, in a tightly contested fight in Manchester Arena.

It all started when two other YouTubers – Joe Weller and Theo Baker, AKA Malfoy – went into the ring last year, and KSI said he would fight the winner. KSI took on the victor, Weller, at the Copper Box Arena in London in February, and won. Following the victory KSI challenged Logan Paul and his brother Jake to take him on in the ring, saying “they both need slaps so it makes sense for me to call them out and for us to get in the boxing ring and we can scrap”.

The bout took place almost one year after Conor McGregor took on Floyd Mayweather.

The match was said to be one of the biggest online event in sporting history. Almost 18,000 fans were present in the Manchester Arena. Others who could not get their hands on the tickets watched the match online. Sources said that 800,000 fans paid $10 for the privilege to stream the event online.  Atleast half a million people more watched on illegal streams despite the organizers attempts to stop it.

KSI found it difficult to cope up with the 23 year old’s height and reach. The first two rounds were heavily dominated by Paul. However KSI fought back as the two men battled it out for bragging rights. Although both the amateurs failed to land their punches, KSI made Paul bleed midway during the fifth round with a fine shot to the face.

However the six rounds bout ended in a majority draw as one of the ringside judges scored it 58-57 in favour of KSI while the other two scored it 57-57. Very convenient as both of them will face off again with the second set to take place in the US.

The decision left the 15,000 people in the Manchester Arena unhappy and thinking that the match was rigged. However, both the Youtubers immediately called for a rematch which completely made sense. Social media was also buzzing after the results came out with people reacting in different ways.

KSI declared: “I think there’s only one thing to do. I think we have to have a rematch. Let’s do it. That was fun.” Paul said: “I think it’s what the people want. Let’s give them a rematch.” The Paul brothers didn’t leave empty handed though. KSI and Logan’s brothers, Deji and Jake respectively, faced each other in the undercard bout. After several rounds of the fight, Deji threw the towel and Jake was victorious.
