Elon Musk is considered one of the best inventors of this generation, why you ask?
Well, Musk today is changing the face of technology, innovation, and creativity. Musk is a South African-born Canadian American business magnate, investor, engineer, inventor and philanthropist, who has numerous great innovations in his backpack, the impact of which is ineffable.
Musk had a long-held interest in electric-vehicle technology, and in 2003, he co-founded Tesla Motors, which manufactures electric cars and the battery packs that power them.
Tesla is helping many people view electric cars as a new start. The company’s Model S sedan was named 2013 ‘Car of the Year’, by both Motor Trend and Automobile Magazine. One version of the Model S can go from 0 to 60 mph in 4.0 seconds, according to Motor Trend. The Tesla Model 3’s price tag: $35,000. Musk’s goal when creating Tesla Motors was never to create an electric vehicle that only the rich could afford, but to have vehicles that anyone can afford.
The Hyperloop, would use electric motors to accelerate 6.5-foot-wide (2 meters) pods to nearly supersonic speeds. Furthermore, these pods would zoom through long tubes, which would be mounted on pylons to minimize construction costs, reduce earthquake risk and ease right-of-way issues.
Elon Musk sees the system as a cheaper, faster alternative to California’s proposed $70 billion high-speed rail system, estimating that a Hyperloop line could be built from Los Angeles to San Francisco for $6 billion or so. A trip between the two cities would take just 30 minutes.
A great thing about all of Musk’s inventions is that he is always towards making life easy for users. Furthermore, he brings about a change that will not only relax the way things work but will also have several other benefits. SolarCity is a project that aims at providing solar-power systems in the US.
Musk has said he hopes to send astronauts to Mars in the next 10 to 20 years. And he laid out his vision for establishing a huge colony on the Red Planet, that could one day support up to 80,000 people.
Musk hopes SpaceX can help get the momentum towards such a settlement by shuttling explorers to the Red Planet at $500,000 per trip. Therefore, developing reliable, reusable rockets will be the ‘key’ to making all of this happen, he said. “Our ultimate objective is Mars, and it always has been. But in order to revolutionize space, we absolutely must have a fully and rapidly reusable rocket. This is basically the holy grail of rocket technology.”
While most of us came to know Elon Musk as the CEO of Tesla, Musk is also the co-founder of PayPal Holding Inc. (PYPL). This all started back in 1999 as a financial services company simply named ‘X.com’.
In 2000, it merged with ‘Confinity’ and developed the online payment system, we now know as PayPal. When eBay Inc. purchased PayPal in 2002, Elon Musk was able to fund his other projects. He then quietly moved himself into research mode for the next dozen years or so.
PayPal has already revolutionized the way we make payments. One can hop on and transfer money to one’s buddy that paid for dinner last night. One can purchase an item from a manufacturer in the other part of the planet. Inevitably PayPal has taken over the digital currency world. Hence, it has already become so ingrained in our minds that we don’t even remember a world without it.
Elon Musk, has set an impression in the history of humankind by making things quite simpler for many people in many different ways.
