HIRSUTE you sir! These hairy chaps are all hoping for glory in the World Beard and Moustache Championships. Girls aren’t the only ones who spend hours together in order to groom their hair.
Meet the competitors of the World Beard and Moustache Championship. These men with their wacky beards might actually spend more time and effort than women in grooming themselves. The only difference being, this ain’t just about simple grooming, it’s extremely long facial hair.
Hundred of hairy men from around the world have descended on Antwerp in Belgium for the 2019 World Beard and Moustache Championships.
Many spectacular styles are on show for the duration of these three days. Furthermore, styles including majestic handlebars and swirling whiskers will be seen as competitors battle out to become facial fuzz kings.
The wacky contest sees the well-groomed competitors take part in three main categories – moustache, partial beard and full beard – with each including several sub-categories.
Since 2001, the event has been held every two years at different locations around the world. including.
Like many such sports, the origin of this too is shrouded in controversy. One Italian group claims that it held the first championships in Northern Italy in the early 1970′s. However, it is more likely that the event was organized and hosted in 1990 by the First Höfener Beard Club (1. Höfener Bartclub) in its hometown Höfen/Enz, Germany, a small village in the Black Forest.
In 1995, the same club hosted the second World Beard and Moustache Championships in the nearby city of Pforzheim.
Further on, in 2009, the United States became the world’s new facial hair super power. It captured twelve world championship titles out of eighteen categories plus the overall championship at the World Beard and Moustache Championships in Anchorage, Alaska.
Hence, the USA was titled the worlds new facial hair superpower.
