Coffee is one of the most, if not the most popular beverage in the world with over 400 billion cups consumed each year. It’s easy to make, it’s quick, it’s tasty and here, I’ll tell the several health benefits it offers.
Recently at Rutgers University, a study carried out by Dr. M Maral Mouradian in rodents showed that coffee could potentially cure Parkinson’s and dementia. The study was published at the proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences.
Parkinson’s disease is a neurodegenerative disorder that mainly affects the dopamine-producing brain networks in the substantia nigra.
The medication for both involves reducing the protein’s gene aggregation and expression.
This study showed that caffeine along with ETH compound present in coffee work to prevent the accumulation of the toxic protein in the brain of mice.
The doctors are hopefully that a simple everyday ingredient like coffee could help in curing a life taking disease.
Except for these recent developments, coffee has several other health benefits such as enhancing energy levels as the caffeine enables the brain to actively increase the firing of neurons and improve physical performance due to increase in adrenaline levels in the blood. Coffee is also rich in vitamins B2, B3, potassium, magnesium among others.
These are reasons enough to give the beverage a try in the path of a healthy lifestyle.
